There is a bronze plaque at the old GEC factory at the bottom of
Shepherds Bush Road near the fire station that commemorates GEC staff
who died in WWI. Now Osram House built on the site.

I am trying to update the record on the WMR and would like to give an
exact location but I have seen a series of location but none precise. I
have searched on Streetview but think it must be inside a building from
the picture.

No picture here yet but it might update tonight.

I'd have thought the best you can do is get the location of the building,
and ask the current people there, exactly where it is and add a description.
Often there is no answer.
I mean in our town, Kingston Upon Thames, War memorials are constantly
being moved to accommodate new buildings, and indeed even the Coronation
stone has been move twice since I've lived here. Its a good idea though to
make sure someone official knows its there, or it could vanish the way a
stone engraving did in this road to commemorate the Queen planting trees
just after her coronation when a bloke put in a driveway.

I see that the location described does not match the "See location on
Google Maps" link, which must need updating also. I agree with Brian,
the only way to be certain is to go and see it for yourself, then you
can clear up any confusion.
Good Luck!
This has prompted me to investigate whether there is any such memorial
at the 1944 Christmas Eve location of a depot of United Dairies in
Wanstead. A V2 landed there, and killed several people, thus depriving
me of some future relatives. I think that the place is now a park. I
have no idea when I will ever be near the area, so maybe this is a new
armchair project to undertake. When I first researched the location and
time and date, I also easily found the serial number of the V2, and
its launch location. Too much information?

Rather a long way to travel!

There are quite a few broadcasting and similar companies in the area
which is why I asked here.

I often EMail a church, school etc to ask about one and they are usually
very helpful. I was recently able to return the favour with one church
and give them some useful information on the history of some of their
memorials from the BNA.

There are lots of 'private' websites recording War Memorial but of
variable quality. They often do not give even the exact location, very
rare to see a NGR on sites like that. Even the photographs on the WMR
are often of very poor quality so the names unreadable.

Saddest case that I came across was when I saw newspaper report on a
WWII memorial being placed in a local school in a tiny Aberdeenshire
village (more a hamlet) after WWII. It was a copper shield with the names.

I could not find any mention of it anywhere so EMailed the nearest
church, school etc. It was circulated on Farcebook in the area and I
was told the school had closed and was left empty whilst awaiting a
buyer. During that time someone stripped out all the copper pipes and
wiring, presumably the copper shield went at the same time. No
photograph has been found and not even a list of names.

Yes its interesting that weapons records are often kept, though in the case
of the V2, the rather cynical might say that the designers ultimate aim was
to use rockets to access space and a few dead Englishmen were worth it to
get the design right. He was a very driven and obsessive person, apparently.

There is an aerial photograph of he site of the impact online.

But I can't see anything about a memorial though there could be a more
general one to people killed in the Blitz in the area.
I was just updating the record on a memorial to the people in
Loughborough killed by a Zeppelin attack in 1916. The memorial was only
erected in 2016 after a local campaign, interestingly the biggest donor
was the Zeppelin Engineering Company of Germany!

That refers to a V2 attack in March 1945, whereas my relatives died
there on Christmas Eve 1944. It was clearly not a good place to be.
Loughborough was where I was at University from 1968 to 1982. Later
than 1916, by a long way.
