Zippy and George have gone to the great Rainbow in the Sky
Sad news.
Voice artist Roy Skelton has passed away at the age of 79.
Roy was perhaps best known for providing the voices of Zippy and
George in classic children's television series Rainbow from 1973 to
1992.

I worked with Roy making Rainbow in Studio 3 at Thames TV in
Teddington.
It was a great programme to work on, and Roy was a pleasure to work
with, as were all the artistes and crew.
The hardest part as a boom operator was NOT to go for Zippy and George
when they spoke.
Roy would do the voices in a little half height booth adjacent to the
set.
The rehearsals were hilarious, being very naughty and with much adult
humour, especially when Bananas were involved.
Great times, great stories, he would do his Dalek voice at the drop of
a hat, no electronics involved.
The music recording sessions for the sing-a-longs were fun too, with
the on screen musicians.
Gone but no way forgotten.
