There arre frequent complaints about background music.

For some time there has been an advert, I think for Curry's or someone
similar, that has background music louder than the actual advert.

Simple question, why?

Artistic choice by the producer.

If, as it seems, you can't remember the brand, they made the wrong decision.

What's the speaker arrangement on your TV? (inbuilt, soundbar, external
2.0, 5.1 etc)

Many older people are hard of hearing, or hard of herring as one subtitle
apparently said recently.

To annoy everyone I'd imagine. My current annoyance is the advert that
never ever mentions the product in audio.

There would seem no excuse for this, after all our money is as good as a
sighted persons money.
For the same reason I'll never give to any appeal which merely says call
the number on screen now and give 2 pound a month.
There are plenty of adverts that manage to get their details in audio, and
some even add an AD track if the AD is on. Rocket science it is not.

I don't believe the very latest Money Supermarket actually has anyone say
who its for, which is kind of going backwards.
I guess we are not that interested in cars, as many of their commercials
are just music.
I was told the other day that an add with just some stirring music was for
Lloyds bank. Maybe its just as well banks leave their names off things as
they seem to close all their branches down except the most difficult one to
get to.

I'd also like to in for programs which do not say what they are, even worse
some of them, when they appear do have AD, yet at no time in the trail is
that even mentioned.
We are still stuck on 10% of stuff with AD, and then only on the mainstream
channels, On line still has no legislation forcing even this meagre
percentage, though a bill is slated for the government in the next session
which is supposed to rectify this, but its probably unenforceable as most
content is world wide these days. Also why is it not compulsory that apps
written for smart TVs, should support the few inbuilt menu and selection
talking software. Its no more difficult than it is to do it for computers
and mobile devices, which they usually do.

I'm afraid that if you do a poll in the street and ask people what
disability means, they say Wheelchair. Many of my friends with sight issues
who fly are getting fed up with airports sending a person out with a
wheelchair, even though they have clearly simply asked for a sighted guide.
People are ignorant about the visually impaired and blind people
generally, and seem to assume we all have guide dogs and have superhuman
other senses t to compensate. They also think blind people see black all the
time not the noise and swirling lights made by the brain that disorientates
us.
Everyone assumes all have computers and mobile devices and are taught to
use them. The view is unfortunately completely wrong. Its only the young who
have grown up with these who are so connected.
I feel better after this rant, but don't get me started on charities and
the lack of funding of core services.

I have a similar attitude towards YouTube. I get fed up when after some
information, I am directed to a YouTube video when what I wanted to know
could be written on the back of a postcard .

Hmm, yes it gets worse when its actually somebody says, first you do this,
click, then this click, and when xxxx appears you need to do this.
Describe what you are doing, since we are not all mouse weilding folk with
working eyes.

It's not a new problem, and clearly one that won't go away.

Sometime in (I think) the last 10 years, the Radio Times reprinted a
letter complaining about excessive background music. I think it was from
1928.
